The Astronomy Building

The Astronomy Building.

The Astronomy Building was built in 1953 to teach naval cadets for Astronomy about planets and stars. These will be the basics of celestial navigation in the future. The RTNA Astronomy Building is the first and the oldest Astronomy Building in Thailand and it is the symbol of the RTNA. It is under control of the Navigation and Seamanship Department. There is a lot of knowledge contained in this building. If you come here once, you will know more about astronomy and navigation. Another interesting one is the navigation museum which is in the back of this building. If you are going to visit there, you can make an appointment before. There is an officer who looks after this building. His name is Lieutenant-Commander Pipat Sopon. On the RTNA three-anchor party, this building will be decorated with lights. It is the most popular and beautiful place to take a photo.

"For Naval Cadets to study about astronomy to use in celestial navigation."

"Not many in each year. It is for only important ceremonies."

If we need to use the telescope is it necessary or not to go in a group, sir?
"Yes, it must a group, because we have to be careful when we use the telescope or other equipment in this building. I must put the cadets in a group of around 6-10 people for safety."
